David Smith of Counsel, Pepper Hamilton, LLP

He is the co-founder and co-chair of the ETG Executive
Forum, an annual workshop on the commercialization of engineered tissue
products and regenerative therapies, and he co-authors a column on FDA
regulatory initiatives that appears monthly in Genetic Engineering News.
Mr. Smith is a founder and principal of Teregenics, LLC, a company formed in 2003 that provides strategic product
development analysis and consulting services to institutional investors, research
centers and companies participating in developing human tissue engineering and
regeneration technologies.
From 2000 to 2003, Mr. Smith was senior vice president and
general counsel of TissueInformatics.Inc, a bioinformatics company, until its
merger with Icoria, Inc. Before that, he
was of Counsel at Reed Smith, LLP and led the development of that firm’s
biotechnology practice in Pittsburgh. He
joined Reed Smith after several years as a Shareholder with Davies, McFarland
& Carroll, PC. Mr. Smith began his
legal career as an Assistant District Attorney for Allegheny County,
Pennsylvania.
Mr. Smith is an adjunct professor in Carnegie Mellon
University’s Department of Engineering and Public Policy and a member of the
Scientific Advisory Board of Clinical Cell Culture, Ltd., a cell/tissue therapy
company listed on the Australian stock exchange. He is also a trustee of AMD3 Research
Foundation, which supports the development and clinical introduction of
computer assisted and minimally invasive tools and techniques for orthopedic
repairs.
He is active in a number of trade organizations and serves
on the executive committee of the Tissue Engineering Society International, as
secretary of the MIT Enterprise Forum of Pittsburgh and as secretary of the
Pittsburgh Tissue Engineering Initiative, Inc. He is a past member of the board of directors of the Pennsylvania
Biotechnology Association.
Mr. Smith is a graduate of Hamilton College
(A.B. 1977) and American University, Washington College of Law (J.D.
1980). He is a member of the
Pennsylvania bar.
